Damn but she has an amazing pair of legs. That perfect
balance between athletic muscle tone and feminine curvaceousness. They glisten
in the sunlight like pearls. All of us, including Barbara, are staring at this
beauty in the hope she will turn around so we may see her pretty little face
and WHOA! Dude looks like a lady… Denver Pride Fest is going to be interesting.
Love Conquers All
Okay let’s start here: Some ignorant scum of a human walked
into the Pulse Night Club in Orlando and gunned down over one
hundred people. 49 of which died from multiple gunshot wounds. I don’t want to
lull on this topic too long as I am trying to keep these blogs upbeat however I
must explain how terrible that situation made Barbara and I feel. We are not
even Americans but the blind aggressiveness that the attack was conducted in
just made us both so sad for our race. How does a guy like that share the same
genetics as a guy like Gandhi? Our race is doomed.
So, on the back of that attack you can imagine that the
party scene was a little more sombre than expected at the Pride Fest. Although the LGBT community tried their best
to respond to the attack by displaying their pride with exuberance you could
still feel a heaviness in the air. Not to say there weren’t colours, music,
dancing shows and smiles all around – it was just a little more sobering than
one would expect.
Colorado Cabbage
Anyway, we hit the Pride Fest feeling pretty chilled. The park where the event
was held is in the heart of Denver with beautiful open green grassy knolls, huge
acorn trees, ponds and walkaways between the historic buildings. Spotlessly
clean and meticulously manicured. Beautiful civic place. In the center of the
park was a box of a sort that had “We’re Orlando” painted on it which became a
shrine for anyone who cared enough to jot down a little note of compassion and
support. Interestingly there was not one single mean or nasty comment. Nothing
racist or aggressive. Each person poured out emotions of pride, support,
understanding and compassion. Quite a sight to see.
We came across all the colours and creatures one would
expect at a pride Fest of this magnitude. Different groups of people clustered
together listening to music (or going full glitter mad to music) , walking
about getting some sun on the body parts hidden by daily business culture and
popping in and out of the various stalls. Barbara and I smashed a turkey leg which,
by the way, is a winner and washed those huge chunks down with a Flat Tyre
beer. Okay, the turkey leg it is a prequel to cardiac arrest but it is amazing.
You just smash it in your face like Fred Flintstone. Awesome.
Banging Beers and Banging Horsepower
We landed at the Yard House after hours of walking about and
sat down for a few beers and then headed back to the house-house. Ordered in
some pizza and kept the neighbors awake for a couple of hours by shouting
about horsepower and a gloriously modified Mitsubishi Eclipse motor…mostly.
Tonight is our last night in Denver. This is
only the half way point as we still have the entire eastern trip ahead of us. Unfortunately something happened in Denver that we both did not expect which lead to a lot of open, heart felt discussion about immigration. We both fell in love with Denver. We were emotional
to be leaving. Silly I know – we have an epic road trip ahead – but we felt so
at home there.
Off to bed…a little sad.
