Day 22 - Pres.Lincoln ,Beer, Sun and a Hedge Maze

Mooooooortem Haaaaboreeeetum. For the past 12 months Barbara has been saying this little phrase. The day has finally come that we get to go to the actual place and she can stop saying that odd little jingle.

We headed out of Bloomington, popped into a farmers market and snapped a pic with old Honest Abe. I see now why he never told lies, the guy doesn't talk much.

Beer: The Universal Language of Chill

The Mortem Arboretum is a botanical garden of a type in the town of Lisle just outside of Chicago. Today they are hosting a craft beer festival and we are within Uber distance from our stay over. So – get some drinks in!

We smashed in about 30 of those tasters and never got round to tasting every brew. My craft beer tongue is not all that developed just yet (getting there) so a lot of the darker and spicier brews I never really enjoyed. Plenty great Ales and Pilsner type beers. Barbara and I sat on the grass there and sipped away at these tasters. Somehow, between the beers, the blistering sunlight and the full fat food we decided to go take a journey into the Hedge Maze.

We got lost. Top Tip No. 08: Do not go into a hedge maze after a few liters of beer and six hours of blazing sunlight.

How on earth do children decipher these freaking clues? We struggled on the level 1 clues and just winged it. Fortunately there was a huge tree in the one corner that I spotted on the way in and we used that as a beacon to safety. I am sure parents must have lost children in there before. Little buggers are probably garden staff now.

We chilled about there for a while longer until the sun went down and we headed back to our hotel. Bit of a sad day tomorrow: We have to give Arjie back. Unfortunately the special price that we got from LA to Chicago couldn’t be extended any further. If we wanted to keep the bike for the next leg of the journey down to New York it would cost us another 2000USD.

Dapper en Stapper

So we made the call to hand her in and give the other forms of transport a try. Bus, Train and good old foot work. Little did we know that not having our own transport would make things a whole lot more interesting.

Interesting? I meant hobo...made things a lot more hobo.
