Day 7 - Carry On My Wayward Son, There Will Be Peace When You Are Done

There are hundreds of them and only a hand full of us. If things go sideways here I don’t think we will be able to handle the situation. What’s that? There’s a little shriek from the bottom of the hall way. Hundreds of women spike their heads out from the ticket line and they all spot the same thing. Misha Colins. The shriek turns monstrous as the panic makes the air thick around me.  Me, and the other few males in the queue, look at each other and realised this may be the end…we are going to die by way of female shriek stroke.

Okay, it wasn’t that bad. Yes there were a certain group of the younger girls that yelped every time one of the actors walked by at the bottom of the hallway but, for the most part, the fans were cool and controlled.

Day one of the convention we got to meet the Richard Speight Jr. and Rob Benedict They became the staple entertainers for the convention and were used as the glue to bind all of the various other talks, shows and events together. They did a fantastic job. They kept it witty and light and made 20 minutes of rambling look almost rehearsed. Almost.

They have a thing called the “Friday People”. These are the people that rock up at the conventions on the Friday and stay all three days. The true fans. The guys and girls that want to absorb every moment of the convention and not just the main attractions. Barbara and I are Friday people and let me tell you this: If you pitched up only on the Saturday – You missed out.

We had Richard running up and down empty chairs, we got panels with Kim Rhodes, Osric Chau , and Travis Aaron Wade. Yes, some of them come back on the weekend as well but they do not duplicate their discussions. So it is entirely fresh and unique to the Friday People.

We popped out to Mama Gina’s Pizzeria, smashed a few bevvies at the hotel bar and headed back to the room for a little rest. We became power napping pro’s by the end of this holiday. Power naps on dirty bus station benches or in a laundromat like a boss.

Later that evening they run a Karaoke session which is put together by the band Louden Swain. The band throws these fantastic little impromptu jingles for each of the actors as they enter stage which, as the weekend goes on, become very catchy.

In between the various shows there are intermissions where you get a gap to walk through the merchandise. Loads of the basics like shirts, posters and DVD collectibles. However, the show is about the Supernatural, so there is also a pretty awesome collection of trinkets, charms, voodoo type goodies and loads of kit made from silver. So: With all of these truly unique and handmade items available what do you think Barbara ended up buying?

Bobble heads. Sam and Dean bobble heads. They are perched up on our bookshelf on either side of a picture of her….where a picture of me once stood.

Can’t blame her really – after meeting Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki I can see what all the fuss is about. More of that on tomorrow’s blog.

After what turned out to be an exhausting day we headed out across the road to the Yard House for a few beers (few of the hundreds they have) and a bit to eat.

Off to bed – tomorrow is the big day.
